Bi Polar Disorder Treatment with Lamictal - Lamictal Bipolar Depression Treatments
69Bi polar disorder is a very serious psychiatric disorder that is difficult to treat. Bi polar people must endure extreme mood swings from periods of manic and hyperenergetic and then dropping to bouts of depression, eventually pushing them towards suicidal and homicidal tendencies if not properly treated. Current bi polar medication is very expensive, costing up to $15 for a daily dosage. This is because 3 types of bi polar medicine must be prescribed to control the two extremely difference symptoms that can arise, and they are commonly referred as anti-anxiety, anti-depressant and mood stabilizing drugs. Since these bipolar medications can only control the bi polar conditions and not completely cure, they are long term medication that must be taken regularly for the rest of the bi polar peoples' lives. Of these medications, Lamictal was found to significantly stabilize mood swings and reduce the reoccurrence of bi polar disorders.
Lamictal (also known as Lamotrigene) is a well known bipolar anticonvulsant and approval by the US FDA for treating people with bi polar disorder since 2003. Clinical studies shown that Lamictal provides stronger manic antidepressant properties compared to both carbamazepine and valproate, which is used for consideration when prescribing Lamictal for bipolar treatment. Lamictal is used on bipolar/manic depression people when the usual combination of lithium, valproate and carbamazepine are not sufficient to provide stabilizing effects on their bipolar mood swings.
Major depression patients can also be prescribed Lamictal as it has been found to be useful for borderline personality disorders (BPD) and post-traumatic stress disorders (PTSD) according to recent research publications. Initial observations showed that Lamictal is actually more effective on patients with severe bipolar symptoms or schizoaffective disorders while being non responsive on unipolar disorder patients.
However, there are still many ongoing clinical investigations to examine the effects of Lamictal on other types of bipolar, mental and emotional disorders. For example, Lamictal is frequently tested on people with depressed or manic depression disorders after the preferred medications for these bipolar conditions proved non responsive. Lamictal is also in the midst of being testing for use on treating panic attacks in bipolar patients. However results are mostly negative and panic attack conditions do not improve even after weeks on taking Lamictal. Anyway, on the topic of bipolar treatments, there is growing evidence supporting the effectiveness of Lamictal as a long term preventive, prophylactic medication.

I was on lamictal for two days, couldn't stay on it. I got the rash, yes the deadly rash, and had to get off immediately. But thank you for putting the information out there. I heard it's really good in regards to side effects (besides the rash).
i am about to try Lamictal...and am scared of getting a deadly rash but my doctor says if I get it, to immediately STOP the medication and go to the ER. So I guess I won't die, if I get it which I prob won't.
I am willing to take it because I hear it helps bipolar more so than other meds, and I want to feel better.
I'll let you know how it goes! wish me luck
Hey! Your hub is interesting to me because I am on Lamictal for my Bi-Polar Disorder! I have found this med to be useful so far but I am only in stage one of my treatment and as you say there are usually 2 more meds to follow! Great read and nice to be able to relate!
Iv been on Lamactal for 6 maybe even 7 years now and it has made my life better. Better in the way that im not constantly upset and emotional. But.... Im not happy. Thats just not for Bi Polar people i guess. If were not on Lamactal i would be a basket case. Iv taken most drugs and this was the best for me. Its so damn hard to figure this all out. Im so sad to know their are others who have this disease! Im so glad I finally got help years ago. I knew something was more wrong than just depression. I do not take other drugs I always get to nervous to mess with it. I cant ever go back to how i used to feel!!! I find it best to take Lamactal at night. It does cause crazy dreams but i found during the day I was out of it. I bartend and cant be out of it at work. I thank God my doctor put me on Lamactal and hope it helps others to at least stop some of the pain my brain causes me. It does cause bad headaches which Excedrin Migraine works best for Iv found. But headaches are better than me losing my mind all the time. What life we have. I try to just be thankful. It could be worse. Good luck and God bless.

I began taking Lamictal a number of months ago, and it is proving to be one of the most effective medications I have ever taken in dealing with my Bi-Polar disorder.
The most difficult part of the treatment, however, was the initial dosage control; the incidence of severe and life-threatening rash is seen in some patients, so I was 'leveled-up' very slowly to achieve my current level.
I am quite comfortable with it and am extremely pleased to find your informational hub.
Thank you for putting this 'out there!'
