Citimortgage Loan Modification & Refinancing Program
88Citimortgage Mortgage Modification Program
Till date, many positive CitiMortgage loan modification & refinancing experiences and reviews have been posted online by the applicants that have managed to save their houses and enjoy the benefits brought about by President Obama's 2009 Stimulus Package to make homes affordable again. If you are among the many US home owners countrywide that are worried about the many house foreclosures that are happening around them due to the collapse of the global economy, act now and do not hesitate any longer.
Lenders such as Citimortgage and Chase are bound by the agreements they signed under Stimulus Package to offer loan modification services to every homeowner who qualifies under the relaxed guidelines. So if you have been previously rejected for a mortgage refinance or modification, you can now try again under this new federally subsidized program. Citibank is now more motivated to help home loan borrowers, as all transactions are now supported by the US Treasury Department.
Home Mortgage Loan Modification Guidelines
These are the basic program eligibility guidelines you need to satisfy in order to be granted a loan mod from the homeowners stability package.
Is your home mortgage loan from before January 1, 2009?
Are you primarily living in the house whose mortgage is to be modified under this plan?
Is your outstanding home loan below $729,750?
Are your current monthly mortgage installments (inclusive of mortgage insurance, taxes etc) exceeding 31% of your monthly gross income?

Save My Home Refinance
If all of the above applies to you, you just need to write a hardship letter and provide information to prove the above conditions and you will stand a high chance of getting the Citi Mortgage loan modification refinance. Your current mortgage interest rate can be reduced to as low as 2% for the next 40 years, such that homeowners can afford the modified affordable monthly repayment amount and continue to live in their own houses.
Homeowners are being encouraged by President Obama to work with the banks to get a home mortgage refinance/modification in order to save their houses. There is a $1000 homeowners incentive for those that choose citimortgage loan modification instead of ending up in short sale or foreclosure. Another benefit to motivate homeowners is that, if you can be punctual on your modified monthly mortgage installments for 5 years consecutively, you will get a total of $5000 financial incentives to reduce their remaining mortgage loan.
How To Apply For The Mortgage Loan Modification
If you are already behind your monthly mortgage payments by 60 days, the CitiMortgage Loss Mitigation Department will automatically mail you a packaging listing some potential mortgage modification and refinace solutions for your consideration. On your part, you do need to write a clear and complete so-called hardship letter explaining how your financial situation is affecting your ability to continue the current mortgage installments at their prevailing rates and how you will be able to continue servicing the payments at the new reduced rates after a successful home loan modification refinance.
Other necessary documents include your credit reports, income statements, lists of expenses, etc. Before submitting your application in a hurry, it is better to surf online and look at the examples provided by homwowners that have already been approved for the obama loan modification plan. You can also contact the bank directly via phone or through the official websites if you have any doubts or questions regarding their guidelines when preparing your case.
When processing your application, citimortgage loss mitigation officers will contact you for further clarifications regarding your eligibitilies for the home mortgage modification grant. You may want to have all the necessary documents by your side so that your verbal answers will be consistent with what you have submitted in your application package.
Yes, there are many fraud cases and home loan modification scams happening right now, which iis why the banks are being careful to make sure homeowners that do not meet the guidelines are being filtered out to ensure sufficient resources are left for those truly in need of help to make their mortgage payments affordable.
Do It Yourself Home Loan Modification
We believe most homeowners looking forward to a successful citimortgage loan modification will be able to prepare all necessary documents and on their own without paying expensive fees to mortgage modification companies. All the necessary information and examples have been widely shared freely online, and by putting in some effort in a few hours of searching, it is definitely feasible to do it yourself without a scammy so-called loan modification specialist.
You can also seek free help and advice from counselors appointed by the US HUD (Housing And urban Development) to help with any queries you may have regarding the entire 2009 Citimortgage loan modification process. Remember that these consultations are employed by the Federal Government to provide free advice, so do not get scammed into paying for services that do not cost a single cent.
Bad credit mortgage lenders such as Countrywide and Citimortgage are willing to help many consumers with home loan modifications because they cannot take on so many foreclosures and have their money stuck in real estate and properties. They are primarily a bank and in the business of lending money. That is why this bailout programme benefits both parties. Homeowners can continue to make payment on the reduced installments and get a second chance to get their poor finances sorted out.
Benefits of Citibank Loan Modifications
Aside from the financial incentives to encourage homeowners to take part in this 2009 stimulus program to save more houses from foreclosure and short sale, a loan modification actually means you are only restructuring the terms of your mortgage loan and not really rewriting it. The following are some examples but the specific situation depends on your lender and your personal circumstances.
You can get a waiver or suspension on mortgage installments for a few months.
You can get a substantial reduction in your mortgage interest rate.
You can get your loan term extended by up to 40 years.
You can get a refund on your prepayment penalty if you have been made a home loan refinance.
You can get your home mortgage completely or partially cancelled if there are serious violations in the APR calculations.
Now, the loan workout program has been further expanded to include second trust deeds as well where the interest rates can be reduced to as low as 1%. There is a chance for homeowners with second liens and have lost significiant percentage of home equity to have their debt retired.

I have been working hard over the last 11 months to find help somewhere. Our family income has been cut by more than 1/2 since last December...I called Citi-Mortgage prior to th first late payment to let them know that we would be struggling to make ends meet until my wife found employment and that we would probably end up behind in our payments. Since then I have talked to so many employees of Citi it makes my head spin. I have been given so many possible options that it has made my head spin. All of which seem to go nowhere...with none of the employees of the company having any idea of my previous attempts to contact them. The most recent possible help was the making homes affordable program...I qualified when I spoke to them and then the next time I spoke with them I had gotten a raise and no longer qualified...so they said there was another program where I had to make sure I get the call when they called or wouuld be passed over for the opportunity. This was 3 months ago now and during those 3 months I have received nearly 100 calls from CitiMortgage that either hang up when I answer the phone or it says hang on for an important message and then they hang up. I know I have to pay my mortgage...as I prefer to have a roof when it rains for my family, but how can this kind of psychological terrorism even be legal. I can't help but wonder at the timing of being told don't miss this next phone call...then begin receiving these hang-ups from the company. I asked them about changing my loan to a VA loan...they obviously did not want to go down that road for me...
I've had a mortgage with them for 10 years. Everytime I've called them I get nowhere. I wonder if they even train their employees because I can't even get a simple question answered. The last person tried to argue with me over something HUD had told me to ask them. Turns out she didnt even know what I was discussing yet tried to insist I was wrong.
My husband and I have started our loan mod with Citimortgage in March 09. We received a letter in June saying that we would have a three month trial period. They didn't start the trial period until Oct. The last trial payment was in December. They called and said a few times that they need documents that we sent a few times. They lost the documents so we had to resend them. Now they said they are out at least two more months. No one seems to know anything and they will not give you an update. They say it is in a different department. The worst part is they lowered the payment and we have paid it on time not missing a payment since we bought our home. They reported it to the credit bureau saying it was a derogatory mark and it lowered my credit score badly. Now we need them to remove it and it just a huge pain. I really don't know what is going on over there but at this point I have nothing positive to say about Citimortgage.
I'm having the same problem with Citi Mortgage that everyone else is having. I've done everything they have asked. Made my payments like they told me too and still can't get my modification completed. My mom has another mortgage company and her modification was done within 30 days. I first started my process in Feb 2009. It's now Feb 2010. This should not take 1yr.
I have tried to modify my loan myself with citimortage and they gave me the the run around. Then I hired a firm of attorney's whos people have been trying to get this done since March 2009. Each time I have called Citymortgage gives me a different answer. They simply dont know or dont want to tell what is going on. I was put on a forebearance plan, ie reduced payment plan and have paid this faithfully. Then they declined my application for no apparent reason. Whom does one appeal to under these circumstances? AJ ... above please tell us who your mom went with to get the loan modification done. It would really help us all out here. I would never ever do any business with CitiMortgage ever again.
rd
I AM SO WORRIED ABOUT THIS PROCESS. THEY JUST ASKED ME TO RESEND THEM DOCS. I WONDER IF YOU HAVE A LARGE DEFICIT , WILL THEY DENY YOU. THIS REALLY SUCKS, I DON'T KNOW WHAT ELSE TO DO.
it has taken over 16 months for my modification to go through. Supposedly it was finalized in february and our new payment to begin on March 1st. We received all paperwork, made our first payment. All is well for a couple of days until we start getting harassed by Citi's credit department, via phone, mail you name it. They say we owe a huge amount of money. Now today i'm told they will take this huge amount of money and add it to my loan. They never explained what the charges were for (over $12,000). I was told they will take this 12,000 and spread it over the next 5 years, which means i have gained nothing from this horrid experience. it will put my loan number right back to where it was before i began. citi is useless, mos group is useless. i don't even want my house anymore. waste of time and $$
Please be careful with Citi... my sister has been in thier trial period for almost a year now, they said if she made her payments on time with the lesser amount it would lock in like that. well almost a year later after she has done everything they asked they told her she was denied and that she now owes $6,000 due immediately or they will start the foreclosure process. She also found out that the payments she has been making have NOT been applied to her mortgage but put in a special fund and they have been reporting her to the credit bureau for late payments even though she has never been late. They have ruined her credit and now she is unable to buy another place. GET EVERYTHING IN WRITING!!!!
I finally got a mod only took 12 months. All they offered was to take the amount I owed and put it at the end of the loan, including all the interest and penaltys. They did lower my interest by 1% from 6.5 to 5.5 Now I owe more than the home is worth and salaried by my employer so I cant earn the overtime I counted on. When I asked intially about the mod I was told that if I had a FHA I was not eligiblke for the Obama plan and now see they changed the criteria before I mod my loan. I went thru hell with Citimortgage but you have to call every day and ask where you stand, it becomes repetive listening to the same announcments over and over and answering the same over and over before your able to actually talk with a person. Ask for email address so you can correspond as well. I wish everbody luck, homeownership is not suppose to be like this. I am currently looking for my lender to assist me again now that I owe more than 31% of my gross.
OMG, When is someone going to help us??????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????
Citimartgage approved me for a mod in Aug, 2009 Paid 3 tril payments on my statement my interest went down to 2.20 and than they tell me they made a mistake that I should have never been approved. The bank that holds my mortgage is Federal Home Loan Bank of Indianaplois and they do not have gov backing for the mod program. I had to reapply to olny get denied. Now I owe them 20,000.00 and they want me to pay it back or I go into forcloure. I have all the paper work and proof. DO NOT TRY TO MODIFY YOUR MORTGAGE WITH CITIMORTGAE. Now thanks to citimortgage we are about to forclose. We lost have our income because of this crisis and the mod would have saved us, now they are stealing our ho9use from under us and we can not do a thing. So sick in New York.
As I am reading this - I thought I was the one who wrote it as we all have the same experience. Calling Citimorgage and hold you for a long time, 3 month trial period came and in the middle of trial period they told we are not qualified but didn't told me until the last payment was issued. So we are not qualified for the Obama Plan because our income is over the 31%. Then was transferred to another plan resubmit another papers, then they told we are not qualified to any type of plan as our income is short. And same thing everytime you called, the Citimortgage people don't know the history of your case. They should document what they told and what we told them, so that if another person is working on this case, they will know what already have happened on this case.
There is also another incident that their representative waw asking to lower our expenses on groceries as she told we spend too much on groceries. There are 4 people eating in this family, we cook and me and my husband always brings lunch, sometimes my daughters brings lunchtoo. So $500 is not too much to include lunch and dinner for the whole month.
WE don't expect this house will be free, but we are just asking for help to lower the monthly mortgage, expenses are going up-groceries,gas, etc. but our wages are still the same and that is why we are now negative on our income.
Very interesting to see the similarity between all of these posts. So similar in fact that it's hard to believe this is a mistake. I too was approved for a 3 month mod. that included several calls, multiple re-faxing of hardship package, and complete silence usually from citi. The funny thing was they were actually sending me texts messages saying I was almost approved which obviously never happened.
Then after 7 months of on-time payments I received the letter from citi that I was denied my modification and owed them 17K by months end. Unbelievable!!!
I too had my mod. payment money diverted to a separate citi interest bearing account that ultimately made money for Citi, BUT, devastaed my credit as it now shows 8 months past due. It's really interesting because in 5 years I have never missed a payment at either the original loan amount of the adjusted mod. amount, yet my credit is now butchered. My credit cards have all reduced available credit lines since I am being reported as "late" yet I don't even carry a balance on any of them. I also had a credit score in the high 790's prior to this debacle. Had citi only denied me at the 3 month mark as they told me I could have been out of this mess now with less of a credit hit.
I guess at this point my wife and I have just given up and recognize that Citi is treating this like a business transaction rather then helping people like their website claims.
Upon receiving the "you owe us 17K" letter I put my house up for sale and I am now going down the path of a short sale which hopefully works out. Then again, I have to deal wih Citi so I am sure the journey will be cluster F%#~!
Good luck everyone! My advice is treat Citi like they're treating you...a TRANSACTION...and once you do it will help eliminate alot of the emotional stress involved in this process!!
It was good to see that Citi posted 4.5 bill in profit for Q1/2010. I would have been better off buying Citi stock during my mod. than actually making the payments. I would have actually made a little money, my credit would have suffered either way, and the result would have been the same. Live an Learn.
Stay strong and fight the good fight!!!!
I had all of the same experiences with Citimortgage. I have a textbook size notebook that contains all of my notes and documents from when I first began the process. I have never been hung up on so many times in my life. I spoke to over 50 people, each with a different story or different procedures. I received duplicate paperwork and I had to reapply because my paperwork was "lost." My files were closed on two different occasions. I tried to be empathetic knowing that the person on the line really was new to this process. Just imagine trying to hire thousands of people and get everyone trained for this enormous program. I was persistent and understanding and after one year it paid off. My first mortgage was modified with a traditional modification which lowered my payments by 1,100. My second was then modified and my payments were 150. less per month. In the end the loan officer at Citi was amazing and efficient and I will always do business with Citi.
citi is a scam. the attorney general should be investigating
Thanks for posting. I ALMOST did the remod thing with them.
I have been trying to modify with Citimortgage for the past twelve months. After I have faxed, called & submitted countless documents, I finally got a verbal approval for a traditional loan modification a month ago. They told me to wait for the new loan docs betweeen 7-10 days. Since I never received the papers, I called Citi. I found out then that my file was transferred to a new negotiator. This person told me because the other negotiator did not mail the papers in time, I had to "re-apply". I then was asked to resubmit one thing after another so I did. Next day I call and found out that my loan mod was denied that the negotiator was closing my file. He refused to let me speak to a supervisor. He was rude and cold. I told him you guys mislead me all alone and now you are only giving me three weeks to move out. Citi will no longer postpone my sale date. Now, me and my family have to be out in 10 days. This is not only cruel but stressful. After they said I was approved, now two weeks later I have to pack and move out. I wonder if banks can act this way. Is this legal? oes anyone know of any attorney that might be willing to listen to me. Thanks. email: sofiawilliams@cox.net
I've been working with Citi since January 2009 to get my loan modified. I have filed application after application...and never get a response. I have finally given up and have decided to go with a short sale. I don't have the energy nor the desire to get on the phone with them again. I wish I could say something possitive about the process, but Citi has made everything impossible for me. I was even told by someone there to stop making my mortgage payments and that perhaps someone would take me seriously. I'm done!
My mortgage WAS modified through Citimortgage. It took a long time (14 months) and a lot of persistence through phone calls and faxes. My file was transferred from person to person which was very frustrating. I had to keep explaining to each person that the reason why I wasn't submitting my husband's tax return was because we were going through a divorce and I was getting the house. They kept asking for his tax return OR the divorce settlement agreement but I wasn't divorced yet nor was my husband contibuting financially. I had to beg each person to be patient for the settlement agreement that was in the works. I wrote them numerous letters begging them not to close my case. Finally I received the settlement agreement in April. I faxed it to them and my modification went through in May. I have the papers showing my interest on my mortgage is now 2% down from 7%. Don't listen to anyone who says don't apply for assistance. Apply but be patient and persistent. By the way, I was never hung up nor did I wait long to speak with someone.
I applied for a loan mod with CITI in January, 2010, which is when I started my trial payment and never missed a payment in the past 10 years. Here it is June and I'm just finding out I was denied for insufficient income. Now they are wanting the difference in the payments (almost 5k) immediately or they will start foreclosure paperwork. What a ripoff, I think they get you to the point where they take your house if you have equity. Now I can't get ahold of anyone in customer service, keep getting transferred to one of the loan mods answering services. I'm at lost for words at this point... all the hard work down the drain. Guess I need to get packing. Any advice would be appreciated.
In Nov 2009 I was placed on a reduce payment plan for four months I submitted all required paper work but somehow they lose it, so in April 2010 they said I was rejected due to missing docs(there idoits)and they would put me on a traditional program, I kept complaining that they do not give me a consulor so we can work as a team instead of me repeating everything over and over when i call. Now they say i owe them money and I'am delinquent. From the time time you pay a reduce payment it goes to a closet called unapplied funds, than next month when u pay they subtract ur original payment from the reduce payment and u have a balance which will be added to next month, in which this was never told to me.If u have an agency that can help cal them because their are alot of people that have been affected by these liars
Citi put me on a 6 month trial payment plan of $1500 per month - made ALL of the payments and ON TIME! I was told to contact them at the end of the trial so I began doing that before even making the last trial payment ... AFTER (and I've submitted 4 workout packages already) - they told me they had NOTHING!! I have the confirmation sheets in my hand right now where the faxes DID go through properly to the #'s they gave me! Sooo - I submitted another one - about a week later I get a call and their new offer after making those payments is now $1886 per month!!!!!! LOL! I now have the Comptroller of the Currency AND the Attorney General looking into this complaint for me right now! How about that for a loan modification like they promised?? Increased payments of $400 per month after keeping my end of the deal! They also sent me a later a month later stating I didn't qualify for a loan modification because of my NET income was too high - which they had AS OVER $1000 MORE THAN WHAT IT ACTUALLY IS!! These people are crooks! The Attorney General is actually forcing them to show how they came up with that ... I have the letter and a family friend that's an attorney so I'm just waiting to see where this goes! Can you see ANY judge not blasting them for "cooking the numbers" about my net income?? I can't .. look forward to my day in court actually - and so does my attorney!
Having the same problem it seem. Been trying to get the modification since 3/09. They finally sent the paperwork end of jan/10. After the trial period I called and they said I was denied and i owe the difference. they just put me in a worse position then i was in. We should all file a class action suit or something against them. I believe it was never there intent to modify. Why pay them at all then.
WOW!!! This is ridiculous.. and I'm with Carol on filing a class action suit. I myself have been struggling this process with citi and feel everyone's pain it has been a never ending "Nightmare". I started my Mod in Aug 09 and submitted countless times the doc citi requested never getting anywhere. I finally contacted a law firm to help in the process and finally after 9 months dealing with this I finally got a "CONGRATULATIONS" package from citi telling me how I have been approved for a loan mod. I go through the doc and find that they have lowered my rate down to 4.575% for 2 years and it will go up 1% every year for the next 5 topping out at the original rate of 9.4% extending my mortgage to a 40 year plus a $10,000 fee added to my principle balance which by the market is already $40,000 in the negative equity. So with a home in the negative of $50,000 they tell me I can refi in 2 years to get in a more permanent loan ..hmmm well I don't know what world citi lives in but if a bank will not refi you being upside down on a mortgage now then 2 years isn't going to make a difference either. I don't see how this is solving anything just making matters worse for all homeowners. I think I'm going with plan C come take the house and shove it and put the money I would be paying for mortgage that I'm not getting anywhere with on the Principle balance for the next 10 years and pay off all my other debt and work toward a less stressful debt free life... Thanks Citibank you have shown me the light and I hope for everyone else you are starting to see the light as well good luck to all ...
My home was in foreclosure. Citi went to mediation with me and approved a hamp loan. They did not send papers for modification. I waited 3 months. Finally, they admitted the papers were not processed properly, and offered to waive the trial period. They would approve me for the new modification without the trial period. That was in Jan. 2010. I've been on the phone with clueless people there almost weekly since then. All giving different info. They just sent me new foreclosure papers for all my efforts.. If anyone has a recommendation how to proceed, it would be appreciated.
Wow! And I thought it was just us. We too have tried to re-fi with Citi. Our loan was sold to them over 3 yrs ago, always made payments early each month, never once late. Thinking we were good clients and should get the benefit of a lower interest rate we started the process in March. After going through numerous agents or whatever the idiots call themselves, having the closing costs increase by 2000, starting over with a 30yr and losing the last 3 yrs, them wanting us to borrow all costs - an additional 8200, faxing documents for 3 months over and over, we decided to end the process before they did something to ruin our excellent credit rating. We are concerned that with all their credit checks, it may have happened anyway. We are also worried with where all those documents with our personal info included on them ended up, since we too sent them over and over. They went through employees on a weekly basis it seemed. How can we all be assured that our identities are safe with this not so stellar company? Sad thing is, we still have a mortgage with them with a not too horrible interest rate (would have liked to have taken advantage of a lower one) but we will not ever use citi again. Makes me sick our tax dollars bailed these thieves out. But my big question is how in the world do they train so many people to be so imcompetent? Or do these poor suckers go to work there and only find out later that they are required to be scumbags if they want to keep their jobs? Maybe all those employees actually quit and are not fired? Can't stand being so dishonest to all of us who are just trying to do the right thing and not be foreclosed on? Makes ya wonder, doesn't it..
I did the same as everyone here, 3 months of reduced payments that began March of '09. I could write a book, but I am just trying to stay level headed. I have delt with a couple scam company's in the past year and they feel very similar to how I am being treated at Citi. I am wondering who to contact to file a lawsuit? I think what they are doing is pre-meditated and on purpose. They loaned a ton of money and then froze the market (just like the great depression), and then the TAX PAYERS bailed them out. When the bailout happened the rules changed. Greed never changes though, and who has the power to stand up to the Banks? Looking at what happened it is not the Government who can.
This is nuts. Applied for mod in June, faxed all required documents the day after I got my packet in the mail. Two weeks later I get a call from the Citi person "handling" my case asking for our 2009 Fed tax returns to "complete the process." I then logged into my acct on the Citi website, where it states that I've been approved for the mod and to expect my "mortgage solution package within the next 5-7 business days." Printed that out as soon as I read it. I don't trust that company one iota.
So Delaney, I'm where you're at in the process. What exactly did you get in the mail this time?
We have been trying to do the loan modification with citi for 8 months now. I have called them several times to check on the status. They tell me they are just backed up and will get to our paper work. I called again today demanding an ans on why this is taking so long because we had recieved a letter from them in the mail 75 days ago stateing they had all of our information and would get back to us within 30 days. This time I kindly let the phone person know that I was writing to the CEO of citi and the attorney general she decided to "look into my case a little more." After doing so she told me we didnt write our ssn on one of the forms. After 5 months of calling they now decide we are missing something. WOW what will happen next our credit is getting so brused! Im afraid they will force us out of our house and demand the 11 month difference from our modified payment. The worst part is we would have worked more and more to keep this house but they said they could help!!
After 9 months of paying the reduced mortgage payment they told me to, I found out i was denied for the obama plan, got foreclosure letter.....9K due, blah blah blah.... they sent experian and the 3 others that i was over 3 months late in paying my mortgage payments (which is bull, i have NEVER been late, just sent what "they" told me to!) now my credit is a mess, they will not send a letter to fix it either...what? I wasn't late! now i am looking into an attorney! anyone else have this problem.......i smell a class action suit coming up! anyone with me......if so, post, we can get together and figure something out!!!!!!!!!!
Class action has been filed Nicole I have info on it do you want in? they did the same thing to me and 1000s of others. I could use your statement for the court case I am in now, also any others that would be willing to let a judge see the modification program mess that citimortgage did to you I could use it.I am going to win my case come hell or high water. keithestep@hotmail.com
We have gone through everything your posts have described. Our home was finally foreclosed on 1.5 weeks ago, and we moved out last week. TODAY, I get a phone call from Citi and they tell me that they need MORE DOCUMENTS, because they are still working on the modification. WHAT???????!!!!!!! I couldn't believe it. Do they think that this is funny?! The very last option that they gave me the day before the home foreclose (which they bought), was to pay $12,000 to them, and that the other $12,000 would be spread out for 6 months on top of my regular payment. I was told today that that wasn't the modification option, but that it was the RE-PAYMENT option. WOW! So I asked if there is a possibility for us to get our house back, and she said that she didn't want to mislead me, but that they would know within 24 to 48 hours. Either way, it is cruel to mess with people's hope. We have been trying to modify for over 1 year, and have sent faxes and faxes, and even hired a modification firm as a last resource, and we still got foreclosed on. By the way, our trial modification payments were going to "Unapplied Funds". Even if we get the house back, I would like to talk to an attorney to see what can be done with this psychological bullying.
we have been paying 1000.00 less for 12 months on their modification trial program, now we are 12,000 behind and received a default letter that the 12,000 is due now, we were told they lost our paper work, we were told that the company doing the modification backed out and they were looking for another company, that freddy mac was reviewing it, but all along we were told to keep paying the reduced trial mortgage, so I guess now we will lose our house, this just seems like a scam by citimortgage!!!
i have been giving the run around by citi for 18mos, and they did foreclose on me even though they said they would put it on hold "while we worked this out" they have ordered the sale on my home twice due to a "glich" in their system they withdrew the order once but refuse to do it this time unless I give them 8mos of payments that I have already given them and provided them with receipts (money orders) because they refused to take my checks after they keep my $ in unapplied funds and then started cashing my checks after I withdrew the $ and resent it in money order form...can you see where this is going, anyway I emailed the judge on the foreclosure but don't know if that will help, I don't know where to turn, I have NO money, it takes every dime I have to pay the bills I have now, I struggle every month but I still managed to send they reduced "modified" payment only to find out that wasn't good enough they are taking my home anyway, I shoould have not paid them a dime and lived her anyway, I would have gotten the same result except I would have my money and they wouldn't. I have spent the last 18mos on the phone, stressed out and done everything Citi asked, I too have a huge file on the communication, I intiated everytime, but it doesn't matter if they want to sell your house they will and mine will be sold in September
we to have had enough with citi mortgage, we started our mod in Nov. of 2009 but our payments went up. Paid the increase and just received a letter in august stating we did not qualify for the mod. meanwhile our credit is bad, and they say we owe more than 24,000. we dont know where to turn any suggestions would be helpful
I dont understand how you can be in remodification one minute by making payments on time and the next thing you know Citimortgage is processing you for foreclosure! They never had any intentions on helping anyone! Yes getting RICHER from hard working people!! But guess what! "NO WEAPON FORMED AGAINST ME WILL PROSPER"!!! CitiMortgage will not win! We tried after several calls and resubmitting paperwork over and over again to work with them believing they were going to help us to find out that wasn't their plan. CitiMortgage processed us for forclosure immediately and printed in the local newspaper we were in default of our loan? I see why it's not a good idea to put your trust in mans system because its doom to fell everytime, I'd rather trust GOD anytime!
I have been working with CitiMortgage and what I am to assume is there outreach program Mortgage Outreach on a loan modification since March 8, 2010. I have gotten NOWHERE. I send them every piece of paperwork they have asked for at least twice. Citimortgage tells me I have to contact Mortgage Outreach, Mortgage Outreach tells me to call Citi. I have called and get voicemails or the usual "we are reviewing your paper work it can take up to 30 days." As much as I would like to get mad and yell at these people that will in my opinion only make it worse for me. My husband and I have lived in our home for 26 years, we now have to go to a Court mediation with Citi's team of lawyers (again had to send paperwork to them) and more then likely they will contine with the foreclosure of my home. I am going to no doubt have to contact a lawyer to see if I have any options for a suit against these shyster's! Not sure why they would want another house they won't be able to sell instead of getting some $ from us. As it stand there are 11 houses in my neighborhood that are up for sale. Good Luck to Citi on trying to sell it if they forclose on mine.
Its unfortunate that we have been SCAMMED by Citimortgage!!! I have been in modification since October of 2008, I have made all of my "trial payments" (which were only supposed to be for 3 months) on time and have sent in all the required doc's over and over again... Without any word that our loan mod was denied or approved, we have been sent a demand letter to pay $28,000 dollars in past due payments/late fees or get out!!! Its such a shame how they are pulling a scam and writting to your local Government doesnt help!! I hope I am around to see the day Citimortgage pays for their crimes!!!!
Same problem here, After 8 years paying on time, we went through some financial dificulties, and when I called citimortgage to tell them I would be behind on 1 payment, and not to take it from my acct, they neglected to do it, stating I had signed for automatic payments, and that they could not stop the automatic withdrawal, they have added fees after fees, I am current now, but no one seems to care if you go through financial hardship, Citimortage customer service dept is one of the worst ever. They tell you, they will document your call but you when you call back about your problem no one seems to know anything, they'll transfer you without telling you they're doing so, and you'll end up having to explain the same thing over and over again to another customer in the wrong department!!! I'm so SICK OF CITIMORTGAGE!!!
Yes I agree with ALL the above negative comments about trying to get help with the HAMP program. I applied in July with Citibank and have only gotten discouraged with the answers I've gotten. I was told by the last person that called, that it's been too long since I applied, so I should reapply. The funny thing is that I have been sending a partial mortgage payment( one that I can afford, to show them that I am attempting to work with them) and that money is sitting in a holding fund. So go figure....
Started the Modification process with Citi in 2009. Called, Called, Called... Finally ended up filing Chapter 13 and started the modification process all over again. After 4 months of that, they finally said we were denied. Our 2nd is also with Citi, we have tried to modify that as well. Called every day. Every time they said it is pending... Yesterday it was pending, today - they said they charged off the 2nd. When we asked how they can do that, they just replied there is not enough equity so we charged off the 2nd and they will proceed with foreclosure on the 1st. Citi lies to make people they are actually working on modifications, when in reality, they are really working on how to take your home away. They are liars and cheats!
So we have a lawyer working on our modification and without them i think we would be in very very big trouble.. and even with them we are getting nowhere! We have been told they will foreclose(no date yet) but citi told us to stop making payments cause we were gettin approved for the modification programa nd they wouldnt apply the payments anyways.. so here we are now .. behind on mortgage.. threatened by foreclosure and citi is still messin around and giving us no answers.. and they keep "losing docs" and claiming to have not recieved them.. even though my lawyer has email confirmations from them saying they have the docs.. nice huh!the stress of all of this is overwhelming and they are mentally harrasing the crap out of us.. it is wrong and we are in more trouble now cause we listened and did everything citi told us to.. our lawyer is trying hard to stop them now..so im wondering how many people that had trouble with citi had a lawyer? we are finally geting somewhere with the lawyer.. citi has stopped harrasing us lately..
its ridiculous and a crime what they are doing to people... we have one lady from cciti actaully assigned to our cause since hiring our lawyer.. before it was whatever joe shmow u talked with..
Thanks so much for posting this, I have been trying to mod my loan with Citimortgage and have gotten the complete run around. Lost faxes, didn't receive faxes, it being reviewed and now they are telling me to restart the process. I had a feeling this was BS!!!!
I am just sick to my stomach. I have been working with Citi since Jan. 09 on my modification program. I have done everything they've asked of me. I have faxed them repeatedly because they stated there where documents missing. Today, I called to check on my account. I was told I have 10 days to pay them $10,000 or they are going to foreclose on my home. I love my home. I have jumped through every hoop they have asked of me. I try to call and never talk to the same person. I get hung up on. I get the run around. I have lost faith in everything at this point. I have was so proud to be on the right track. And now I have been surprised with foreclosure. I don't know what to do, but I do know that Citimortgage should be ashamed.
Is anyone aware of a modification seminar that Citimortgage is doing? This seems to be the place to get a loan modification done more quickly since there are Citimortgage reps in front of you. I went to one put on by Wells Fargo in Oakland CA and was able to get 4 loans on rentals modified. If anyone knows of a seminar like this that Citimortgage is putting on, I'd appreciate knowing. Thanks.
I can relate to all of these horror stories, I have been trying to modify since NOVEMBER 2008! Comply with them, get Jerked around. They claim want to 'help' but the only ones they want to help are themselves --to our homes. Our income has been reduced by a little more than 50%- they are are 2nd lein- we managed to get the 1st one modified (after 1.5 years- thanks to NACA) But these jerks will not budge. They lie, mislead, and you will get conflicting information each time you call, they are absolutely not helpful. We have always paid our bills on time and HAD stellar credit, but not anymore, so we cannot even refinance with anyone else on this loan. I am sure they are going to take our house away and there is nothing I can do about it!
We must be the exception and I myself am in shock about it. CitiMortgage sent us a UPS with a preapproved loan modification one day after we became just 30 days late on our first mortgage. It effectively cut our interest-only loan rate in half to a 3.125% fixed, fully amortized for 30 years mortgage. We never inquired about a loan mod. and this preemptively shows up at our door. We did however stop paying our fully underwater second mortgage 3 months ago that is with another company. I assume this is their form of damage control.
I've been trying to mod my loan for over 6 months... and my case is text book, income checks out, Interest only mortgage, house completely upsidedown... AND I have a 3rd party agent helping me. NOTHING!
Badlease are did I get you right? You did not even request a loan mod and you got one?
This is so frustrating...
My parents were approved for a refinance thru Citi, who owns their mortgage, but they have been jerked around for four months. They have been repeatedly told different stories as to why it is not going through or their closing date was postponed. I am an attorney that is about to get involved tomorrow after they were told by Citi that they planned to finalize everything but when they did a last minute credit report check a credit bureau is reporting my father as dead. This was done as my father was on the phone with them. Needless to say my parents are upset. Hopefully I will figure this out for them.
I started a loan mod with citimortage, I was told to pay a certain amount during the trial period, after sending them the requested documents several times, this went on for over a year. I continued to make payments and then told I was denied. When asked why, they told me they did not receive the rquested documents. I asked the service rep to tell me what documents where missing, he said that everything was received on time. He then transfered me to a supervisor to reinstate the mod. Again I received a letter to send the same information again within 45 days back to citimortage. at this time my mortg is behind $15,000. plus late fees. They marked my credit late on all three credit reports and to top that within the 45 days they gave me to send new information, they sold my mortgage to another lender. When asked the status of my mod, I was told that everything would be transfered to the new lender. I spoke to the new lender, no information concerning the modification was sent to them from Citimortage. Now what! They should be held accountable for their actions, my mortage was not in the rears and my credit rating for paying my mortage was good. If I was seeking help to lower my payment, now you want me to pay more to keep my house, something is wrong with that picture
I am going through the same process and am getting the feeling that Citimortgage really does not care about helping me or anyone. Back in October 2010, after NEVER missing a single mortgage payment EVER, we were faced with not being able to make our house payment. We contacted Citimortgage and explained that the economy had caused our income to drop nearly 70% and we could not make our payment. We asked for their help. We applied for the Home Modification plan, sent in ALL the required paperwork, to gain relief. Our monthly payment was $1250. After 3 months, we finally got our "approval"!!! Our payment was being reduced to $1213.79!!! A FULL $36.21!!!! The letter stated we NEEDED to make the 3 scheduled payments in order for this loan to modify into a permanent loan. I called and spoke to a Citimortgage representative and asked if THIS was going to be my "permanent" payment AFTER the 3 months were up. I was told that AFTER the 3 months of $1213.79, I may STILL be denied a PERMANENT loan AND my payment may either be HIGHER or LOWER than the agreed upon $1213.79 I was being asked to pay for the next 3 months. I am no rocket scientist, but is a reduction of $36.21 REALLY any RELIEF??? And secondly, why would I make 3 payments of $1213.79 if there is no guarantee that I am going to be approved OR if there is a chance that I may be modified into a HIGHER payment long-term? Really, are these people that ignorant or are they just heart-less? My understanding, at the beginning of this process, I was told by Citimortgage that the NEW payment was going to be NO HIGHER than 31% of my GROSS household monthly income. If that was the case, then I could afford to pay an $850-$950 payment, in order to get back on our feet AND save our home. I am convinced that CITI and all the other lenders are nothing more than a bunch of crooks and liars! They are the ones, along with our good old Federal Government, who got us ALL into this mess and now, the very people who BAILED THEM ALL OUT, are getting the shaft!!! If anyone has info on a pending "class-action" lawsuit, PLEASE let me know. I want in!!!!
Similar story here. Sent in paperwork, payed lower mortgage amount, then modification denied. The period of time from when we started paying the lowered amount until the mod was denied.....payments were reported LATE. This was 6 months! It was reported to the credit bureaus too. BEWARE. SCAM SCAM SCAM Do not apply!
i feel for the people, i was thinking about maybe i could get my mortgage payments down by getting a lower interest rate, because i have to take one of my pay checks plus some of my 2nd paycheck to pay my mortgage payment, and then you got other bills,my mortgage was sold to citi, without even seeing these complaints before, i had already said i didn't like citi's attitude, even when you call about something, it's like don't call, go to there website and find what you need. i have something written into my mortgage that if i need help i could get it, but after reading these comments, i will not go near them for help, it's gonna take most of my paycheck, but i hope i can maintain and pay my loan off. the word says that money is the root of all evil, people kill, and steal for it, but one day money is not gonna have any value, lets see what happens then.
Citimortgage Loan Modification And Refinancing Scams
Do not be confused and think that the Citimortgage home loan mod will give you a free house. You application must tread the fine line between not being able to afford the current mortgage installment and not being able to pay anything at all. That is why proof of income and ability to make reduced home loan installments is very important for approval, even though this fact is not well highlighted by many loan modification companies and experts while soliciting business.
If you cannot afford
to pay even after reducing the installments, then a short sale can
still be inevitable. The primary purpose of the Citimortgage loan
modification & refinancing is to make mortgage payments affordable
such that foreclosure can be prevented and both parties win.

Hi,
I read your article and I will tell you that Citimortgage has done nothing except jerk me around with a loan mod. IF I can find a job soon, I will refi and stipulate not to sell my paper to Citi! And, as a result of the four month jerking around, I am making sure to tell my story everywhere and often through Social Media. I am also contacting a reporter friend of mine, and another friend in my state's AG's office. So, altough Citi is supposed to help people in need, such as myself.... they are not! Background - I have owned my home for 10 years, never missed a payment, and have stellar credit. I lost my job four months ago and have tried since to get it into their tiny brains that I need the mortgage mod. They have jerked me around by not returning calls, and giveing me no updated information on the status of the modification. Basically, it is in perpetual review. So, yes, they are bound by law to modify the loan... but I will certainly be out on the street before it is ever done. I really look forward to living in my car this winter!
